Georgie writes, “Last year has blown all others out of the water so far. My maternity leave (or gap year as my husband now calls it) started in January when we welcomed the arrival of our daughter Millie. This also marked the start of my latest challenge, to run in the Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa Just 4 months later and leaving Millie at home. My husband had always promised he’d cover my flights should we be lucky enough to have a baby as long as I ran the race during my maternity leave, which meant it was literally a race against the clock! Long story short, my pentathlon buddy Heather and I travelled together, sharing this incredible experience from very different perspectives! Despite me having to run with my breast pump (but without the pram for once!) I completed in just under 10 hours (top 16% of females) and, despite losing most of my toe nails, recovered unscathed!”
